Dynamic Mindfulness

Breathe In, Breathe Out

Utilizing active movement, breathing techniques and centering methods, our meditation sessions help build greater self-awareness and impulse control while allowing students to better manage stress and anxiety.

UpLIFT NOLA offers regular weekly group practice as well as specialized training and workshops for those who want to deepen their practice, as well as targeted training for educators and those working in school settings.

Our mediation guide and leader, Alan, holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, master's in sociology, and he completed of studies and was ordained to work in youth ministry.

Professionally, he has nearly 30 years of experience working in the nonprofit and public education space focused on areas such as positive behavior support and restorative justice. In recent years,  he has incorporated mindfulness to aid educators and students in calming and connecting with their emotions and feelings.

He was trained and certified by the Niroga Institute, in Oakland, Ca., which spearheaded the development of dynamic mindfulness, which incorporates gentle movement with breathing techniques to support anxiety relief, stress management and focus. He is currently expanding his own practice through his participation in the Mindfulness Meditation Training Certification Program (MMTCP) facilitated by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.
